Papeda, Papua Penuh Damai

Menyantap kuliner lokal seakan-akan sudah menjadi rutinitas wajib ketika berkunjung ke suatu daerah. Itulah yang mendorong saya menyisir ambang pantai di Teluk Humboldt Jayapura, memasuki rumah makan satu per satu, dan menanyakan, “Ada papeda?”

Akhirnya saya berhasil menemukan satu rumah makan penjual papeda di tepi laut.

Papeda adalah bubur sagu. Makanan ini merupakan makanan khas Papua bagian pesisir pantai utara dan selatan, mulai dari kawasan Sentani, Jayapura, Manokwari, Timika, Asmat, hingga Mappi. Hanya saja menurut teman-teman saya di Merauke sebaiknya menyantap papeda di Jayapura lantaran kondisi air di sini lebih baik daripada di kawasan selatan seperti Merauke yang membuat rasa buburnya menjadi agak aneh.

Sejatinya papeda lebih mirip lem kanji daripada bubur.

Hari itu saya mencoba memesan satu porsi papeda dan yang datang adalah satu baskom lem sagu. Meskipun sempat agak panik bagaimana menghabiskan semua ini, saya pun mencoba perlahan-lahan menyantap bubur khas Papua ini. Rasanya kenyal seperti jenang dengan sedikit masam yang samar-samar. Papeda saya santap bersama dengan ikan kuah kuning yang juga merupakan kuliner khas Papua.

Perlu dua jam untuk menghabiskan makanan ini di ambang kesunyian sore Teluk Humboldt. Namun setidaknya saya sudah berhasil mencoret satu item dari daftar kuliner khas Indonesia yang harus saya coba.
